In 2012, South Africa officially designated CHEF as a recognized TRADE.
Attaining the Chef Trade Certificate, candidates need to take the National Trade Test Exam which is the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA), the candidate will be either deemed competent, or not yet competent, at the end of the assessment.
The Trade Test comprises of a Theoretical Assessment and a Practical Assessment, regulated by the QCTO. Certification of this qualification is done through the QCTO.

Trade Requirements
- Candidate should have successfully completed the 3 year Occupational Chef qualification at an Accredited Institution.
- Candidate needs to submit their Portfolio of evidence confirming that all knowledge, practical and workplace modules have been completed.
- A reference letter from the Institution confirming that the candidate has completed 18 months at the school and 18 months of Workplace Training (Industry Logbook).
