What is Trade Test

A trade test is an assessment of an individual and whether or not this person has achieved certain levels of knowledge within the context of a specific trade

What is the requirement?

Who qualifies for a trade test? Technical Grade 12 with Math, Science and
related trade theory subject and a minimum of 3 years relevant work
experience; or. Grade 9 and a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience; or.
Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National
Technical Diploma.

What are the benefits?

Trade tests provide a way for employers to accurately gauge the skills of the tradespeople they are hiring. Successful completion of the test will allow a person to receive certification of some sort, and some skills will have additional levels of testing that will denote higher skill levels. The trade test is important when it comes to hiring decisions, as management may require skilled artisans at a given level for a particular project

How to obtain a trade test qualification?

Complete and pass a Trade Test at an accredited trade test center.
Contact your nearest accredited trade test center to register for the test.
Provide proof that you have achieved the requirements to undergo the trade test for the listed trade.
Provide proof that you have completed all the curriculum components required for an artisan qualification.
The trade certificate is then issued by the QCTO.

How long does it take to do a trade test?

Approximately 5 to 6 hours, the test is supervised by a facilitator expert and is usually conducted in two days taking approximately 5 to 6 hours to complete. The Trade Test is in two parts (Part A – Knowledge Test and Part B – Practical Skills
Test).

Which documents do I need to enroll?

Application form
Proof that you have achieved the requirements to undergo the trade test.
Proof that you have completed all he curriculum components required for an artisan qualification.
A certified copy of your ID (no longer than 3 months)
A letter of employment or an affidavit indicating work experience and duration(if unemployed/ self employed)
Proof of identity and address
